Capitol Square’s Annual “Romancing the Square” Event
Celebrate the Inclusive Spirit of Valentine’s Day
Saturday, February 11, from 4 to 6pm
Capitol Square’s annual “Romancing the Square” event celebrates the spirit of Valentine’s Day with free activities on Saturday, February 11, from 4 to 6pm, throughout East Arlington’s Mass Ave. business district. Enjoy free Ghirardelli chocolates, art happenings and exhibits, sales, music, and refreshments to help you get in the mood for romance. This event is free and open to adults and teenagers, and there will be interactive art activities for all ages.
“This year ‘Romancing the Square’ will highlight the inclusive spirit of Valentine’s Day,“ says Diane Buxton, owner of Luv and Other Gifts. “Through art activities promoting inclusion and social gatherings, guests will have the chance to engage with friends and neighbors as well as meet new people.”
Activities on Saturday, February 11, from 4 to 6 PM:
Express your love with free Valentine making at Artbeat (212A Mass Ave), and while you’re at it participate in the Capitol Square Heart Weave Adventure:
Simply remember this rhyme: “Pick half a paper heart, and pin it to your sleeve, find another half, and together you shall weave.” When you find someone with a half of a heart that is a different color or pattern than yours, weave them together and take a picture of the different combinations you make while touring Capitol Square. If you post your pictures online with the hashtag #ShopCapitolSq you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to win prizes from participating Capitol Square businesses. Find as many different combinations as you can for more chances to win.
Welcome to the Disco! Enjoy some adult time with neighbors at a 70s themed Neighborhood Mixer and Disco, at Luv and Other Gifts (189 Mass Ave). Unwind with a drink and boogie to some uplifting disco music while meeting new friends and neighbors. Guests who dress the part will receive a free gift, on top of a 30%-70% off storewide sale.
Earlier in the day, Luv’s alter ego, Puppy Luv, will host Yappy Hour for well-behaved dogs and their owners from 2 to 3pm. Four legged friends are welcome to stop by to sniff Nigel and enjoy some special Polkadog treats. Also part of Yappy Hour, guests will have a chance to “Ask the Vet” with Dr. Beth Innis from Capitol Square’s new Sleepy Dog Veterinary. Sleepy Dog’s focus is complementary medicine — including acupuncture, chiropractic, herbal medicine and massage — along with good nutrition and an emphasis on quality of life. Dr. Innis will perform an acupuncture demonstration and dogs will have a chance to enjoy a mini-massage. Dog massages and Ask The Vet questions and answers will continue down the street at Sleepy Dog (114 Mass Ave) from 4 to 6pm.
