The Year of the Pig begins this Chinese New Year, February 5th. According to Chinese astrology, 2019 will be a year full of joy, friendship, love, and prosperity! It will be an especially good year for growing and learning new skills. Celebrate the coming Year of the Pig at Artbeat with one of our special Pig-themed projects. You can paint a pig on a small canvas, with our pig stencil as a guide, or make an adorable pig plaque with pink felt ears. $15 pp includes all materials

Romancing the Square

4PM-6PM – Woven Hearts & Gift-making

Capitol Square’s annual “Romancing the Square” event celebrates the spirit of Valentine’s Day with activities on Saturday, February 9th throughout East Arlington’s Mass Ave. business district. Stop by Artbeat any time from 4pm-6pm to make a free woven paper heart. You can also stay and make a Valentine’s Day gift in the studio (studio projects $15+pp)

6PM-8PM – Valentine Painting w/ Custom Mug

After the Romancing the Square festivities, adults can join us for a special Valentine Canvas Painting class ($30). We will also show you how to create a custom mug or tumbler with your artwork (starting at $20pp and ready for pick-up the next day).

We Make a Great Pear

Presidential Peg Dolls

This President’s Day weekend, you can paint your own little presidential peg dolls with the likeness of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, or another favorite U.S. president. Or paint your own peg dolls family during our open studio every day during school vacation week (other studio projects also available. $15 pp and up

African Heritage Pillow
February 23rd & 24th

Kente cloth is an icon of African cultural heritage around the world, recognized by its bright multicolored patterns, geometric shapes and bold designs. Kente cloth is considered a sacred cloth, originally worn only in times of extreme importance. Today it is still used specially for child naming ceremonies, graduations, weddings, and funerals. To honor African Cultural Heritage, join us in the studio for this special project. You’ll learn the symbolic meanings of each color and use our strips of colored felt to create your own Kente-inspired pattern on a decorative felt pillow $15 pp.
