Celebrate East Arlington’s Transformation
During
Capitol Square’s 17th Annual “Feast of the East”
Saturday, June 13, from 11am to 3pm

Capitol Square’s 17th annual “Feast of the East” celebrates the unique character of East Arlington’s neighborhoods and shops on Saturday, June 13, from 11am to 3pm. Bring your appetite for a day full of ethnic food, free activities for all ages, live music, sales, promotions and giveaways from your favorite neighborhood businesses.

“Capitol Square is changing”, said Jan Whitted of Arbeat, who helps plan the event. “Our streetscape is literally changing before our eyes. New sidewalks are being built, and we invite everyone to come see what’s happening and to enjoy the process along with us.”

On the way to the pony rides and bouncy houses, families can visit the construction zone “petting zoo,” where they can touch and learn about some of the massive equipment being used to transform the neighborhood, and take home their very own yellow construction hat.

Folks will feast on a variety of ethnic food from Arlington’s favorite restaurants set up on Mass Ave, enjoy an ice cream topping bar, free samples, popcorn, snow cones, cupcake decorating and more. Kids will enjoy the Feast’s resident clown complete with animal balloons, face painting and free crafts.

Music will be in the air between the Capitol Square block and the Trinity Church with The Hardy Boys playing at the Fox Library and buskers on every block, including Alex Navarro, a Boston College senior and singer-songwriter, who channels a distinctive, raw lyrical style; Cheri Lucette, a classically trained harpist whose repertoire includes classical, Celtic, pop, as well as her own pieces; Michael Sullivan, a multi-talented musician, also known as Rev. Busker, the high priest of busking; singer-songwriter Mike Hastings of the Mike Hastings Band will return for his second time playing the Feast; and last but not least Kevin McNamara, brings Sing-along with Kevin M to the Square for children of all ages.

Along the way, visit many of your favorite East Arlington specialty shops for sidewalk sales, giveaways, and other promotions.
